[Bug 434024] New: machine wedges after a while ...
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=434024 Summary: machine wedges after a while ... Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 2 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: mmeeks@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I leave my dell optiplex gx270 running Gnome logged in, doing nothing. The DPMS screen thing turns the screen off (which is fine, that comes back if I press a key). After a while of doing nothing though [ could this be the energy-saving suspend thing ? ], it disappears into a wedged state. I try to reproduce this by suspending (I assume that the suspend is what is being triggered) - but suspend simply fails to work in an apparently benign way. syslog is similarly totally unhelpful - all I see is some hour in some smart diagnostics about the disk temperature going from 115 to 105 degrees C (which sounds rather hot to me but ... ;-) Worrying. I'll provide hwinfo tomorrow. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Oh - bottom :-) presumably you kept one for yourself - are there any distinguishing features on it ?
Yes, I need one for my work :) Here's the device: http://www.plxtech.com/products/NET2000/NET20DC/default.asp and it provides a link at the bottom of the page where to purchase one yourself: http://www.semiconductorstore.com/pages/asp/search.asp?query=net20dc
I tested my netconsole setup by modprobing the ne2k driver in and out (which printk's a message) and that ended up on the other end very nicely. Sadly on total-system-hang, nothing. And of course, X is involved in the hang, I couldn't reproduce it from the console (sadly) => SysRq is not so useful (AFAIK).
SysRq should do the same thing if X is running, unless the entire machine is crashed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
