[Bug 411230] New: KDE3: Second Desktop (i.e. second monitor) not usuable; ksmserverrc
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=411230 Summary: KDE3: Second Desktop (i.e. second monitor) not usuable; ksmserverrc Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE3 AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: bjoern.lotz@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- I updated from OpenSUSE 10.3 to 11.0 Machine is an x86 with nVidia Quadro NVS 280 PCI-E/Quadro FX 330 and latest nVidia driver Logging in the first time looks okay. After logging out and back in again, the second desktop on the second monitor is unusable. Programs can be started, but they don't get the focus. No window widgets (scrollbars etc.) Only one Virtual Desktop where before there were six. When I remove ~/.kde the issue is the same. I replaced ~/.kde/share/config/ksmserverrc with the version from 10.3 and the second desktop is usable again - until I log out and back in again. It looks like ksmserverrc is not written back in a usable form (the display information gets lost). A working minimal version of ksmserverrc from 10.3 looks like this: [$Version] update_info=ksmserver.upd:kde3 [General] screenCount=2 [LegacySession: saved at previous logout] count=0 [Session: saved at previous logout] clientId1=10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920001 clientId2=10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920000 count=2 discardCommand1=rm,$HOME/.kde/share/config/session/kwin_10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920001_1207582175_165165 discardCommand2=rm,$HOME/.kde/share/config/session/kwin_10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920000_1207582175_164425 program1=kwin program2=kwin restartCommand1=kwin,-session,10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920001_1207582175_165165,-display,:0.0 restartCommand2=kwin,-session,10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920000_1207582175_164425,-display,:0.1 restartStyleHint1=0 restartStyleHint2=0 userId1=blotz userId2=blotz This is what the file ksmserverrc looks like after logging out: [$Version] update_info=ksmserver.upd:kde3 [General] screenCount=2 [LegacySession: saved at previous logout] count=0 [Session: saved at previous logout] clientId1=10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920001 clientId2=10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920000 count=2 discardCommand1[$e]=rm,$HOME/.kde/share/config/session/kwin_10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920001_1216733537_475640 discardCommand2[$e]=rm,$HOME/.kde/share/config/session/kwin_10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920000_1216733537_475863 program1=kwin program2=kwin restartCommand1=kwin,-session,10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920001_1216733537_475640 restartCommand2=/opt/kde3/bin/kde3,kwin,-session,10d4d8a065000117549767400000060920000_1216733537_475863 restartStyleHint1=0 restartStyleHint2=0 userId1=blotz userId2=blotz wasWm1=true wasWm2=true -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I suggest switching to Xinerama-like solutions such as TwinView. Alternatively adding 'export KDE_MULTIHEAD=true' to your ~/.profile might do as a workaround. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
