Do you have an older kernel that worked correctly on the affected machine?
No, I did not have an older kernel working better on that machine (not a regression). And I still did not try out a Factory/Tumbleweed kernel yet - will have to find out how exactly to do that. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

(3) Use "rpm -i" to install that kernel along with your distro one, for example: # rpm -ivh kernel-vanilla-3.5.rc7.81.ga018540-1.1.x86_64.rpm (4) Boot the newly installed kernel (it will show up as the first item in the GRUB menu, but it won't be the default, so you'll need to choose it manually) and do whatever is needed normally to trigger the problem. (5) When you're done with the testing, the trial kernel may be uninstalled using "rpm -e", for example: # rpm -e kernel-vanilla-3.5.rc7.81.ga018540-1.1 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Kernel command lines look identical. Notebook doesn't have serial output. As next best thing I've downloaded the 12.2 RC2 live CD and will try it once burned. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

That would be bad if the final 3.5 didn't boot on your machine. Any chance to check that?

After rebooting, the thermal shutdown screen did not appear, so it looks as if the issue got fixed upstream! 12.2 testing still TODO. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
