[Bug 544899] New: no internal mic
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=544899 Summary: no internal mic Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: dutchkind@txoriaskea.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=321387) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=321387) run the file http://hg.alsa-project.org/alsa/raw-file/tip/alsa-info.sh which produced attachment as output User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; nl; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090909 SUSE/3.5.3-1.3 Firefox/3.5.3 On an Acer Aspire 2920 with ALC268 sound card, I can get no internal mic working. Rest of sound works fine, and connecting an ext mic works also fine. Tried different model names for sound card config but none works. On the same laptop I have opensuse 11.0 x86-64 installed and there it worked out of the box, so the hardware is not the problem. (Before that I had to configure quite some things to get it working in opensuse 10.3, so I know what to do) The mixer never show an internal mic, when I set the model to 3stack it shows the input selection for the different sources, and it gives mic boost for both internal and external mics, but no slider for the internal mic, and testinng with skype shows internal mic doesn't capture any sound. Could you check whether the KOTD kernel work? It's the package built from the latest SUSE kernel GIT tree. ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/kernel/kotd/master/ -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Now I could select an input source, so it's better (with model=acer) but still no difference. Rebooted into opensuse 11 to test and there it is still working ok. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Then we can compare the difference. Also, don't forget to reset NEEDINFO flag after providing the requested information. This should have been fixed now. Note that "Input Source" mixer element is gone, and the driver chooses the mic input according to the mic jack plug automatically. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I was browsing internet for solutions and found pulseaudio could be a problem. I had installed and enabled some pulseaudio packages in my previous attempts and this made it for skype the only sound system to use. But also arecord -vv -fdat foo.wav dit not produce a sound file. Now I have removed all packages that were installed by me concerning pulseaudio, removed the acer option and rebooted and it works! Thanks for the time and help to improve my favorite distro! -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I think the problem was model=acer (although reinstalling pulseaudio doesn't do anything harmful). This option is for other (older) Acer laptops that use another pin for the built-in mic. On your laptop, the digital-mic is used instead, thus model=acer doesn't work. Let's close the bug now. Thanks for your report and quick testing. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
