[Bug 214650] New: ppp Multilink (RFC1990) Ethernetpackets below minimum Ethernetpayload (RFC0894)
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214650 Summary: ppp Multilink (RFC1990) Ethernetpackets below minimum Ethernetpayload (RFC0894) Product: SUSE Linux 10.1 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: SuSE Linux 10.1 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: marco.koehn@siemens.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Hello support, Purpose of this test is to bundle two DSL lines via Multilink (RFC1990) and PPP. This feature is used more and more in field. Topology: --------- |PC|------DSL-Line1-----|DSLAM|------ATM------|BRAS| |------DSL-Line2-----| Two NIC are installed in the PC for Multilink. Problem already arise with one link in use. (Multilink is allowed two use only one link in the multilinkbundle/ Test with two links fails with the same problem). Therefore further debbuging was done with one link/nic only. Once Multilink is acknowledged within PPP the Packets are fragmented. This Is conform with RFC1990. ---------------------SNIP--start------------------------- (RFC1990: "Once multilink has been successfully negotiated, the sending system is free to send PDUs encapsulated and/or fragmented with the multilink header.") ---------------------SNIP--end---------------------------- Unfortunately this packets are 30 bytes small. Regarding RFC894 this is wrong. Either ppp should pad his frame to 46 octets or Ethernet should add padding in the payload till the payload of the ethernet is 46 octets. ---------------------SNIP--start------------------------- (RCF894: "The minimum length of the data field of a packet sent over an Ethernet is 46 octets. If necessary, the data field should be padded (with octets of zero) to meet the Ethernet minimum frame size. This padding is not part of the IP packet and is not included in the total length field of the IP header." ---------------------SNIP--end---------------------------- The file /etc/ppp/options was supplement with the statement "mp" wich is the allowed abbreviation of "multilink". Statement "multilink" was tested as well. Libcap snif from the Client can be provided. As well the logging from the BRAS. This setup is present in testlab SIEMENS for Juniper products. Please let me know which Data/Information else should be provided. Best Regards.
