/etc/sysconfig sucks that's true but so far we have no better way :-(
We still have /etc/default/... That's used more and more, as Debian/Ubuntu use this as main place and what I meanwhile prefer. Put the distribution default in /usr/etc/default/..., source that first, and afterwards source /etc/default/... if that exists. Also solves the "adjust config during update" problem we face with %config files or /etc/sysconfig.
I don't really like the env var version as that would propagate to all users.
I agree, especially as this not always works, depending on how the user did login or even not, but the job is run by a systemd.timer, cron or something similar. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
