[Bug 663226] New: Nvada X-Server Settings Application is Unable to Write Any Configuration
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=663226 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=663226#c0 Summary: Nvada X-Server Settings Application is Unable to Write Any Configuration Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Workspace AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: scott@aphofis.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=407458) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=407458) shot! User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.13 The NVIDA X-Server Application either does not or cannot write a configuration file into its default directory. Here the issue may be that the default config tries to create its own hidden directory under the users home directory and either fails to create this directory and or cannot write both directory and file due??? Under normal circumstances the user has no default root authority, however it does not call for escalation and cannot even write itself under the users login directory. The default config would seem to be wasted as there seems no apparent way to change or write to boot config details to read the config file in the first instance. It looks sloppy at best and currently provides nil functionality what-so-ever. Infact on installation, I have no way to change the Video settings, even via config desktop>power management> offers little choice. I cannot change the frequency away from 50Hz or 51Hz and I dont want to run that fast - I really only need 60Hz to achieve perfect 16 million colours at good resolution 1280x1024 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Nvida Application has little or no value in its current form as its cannot change the display config. 2. 3. Actual Results: ZERO Results - It does not do anything Expected Results: Able to write and change the boot config to read Nvida settings -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry, my guess is that it is a problem of the Nvidia blob, and we cannot fix them. The Inference of offering classification from Kernel to Workspace, is to permit reassignment from A-Z. The Nvida driver and application is a default addition and not by choice. If any user adds the Nvida Repository the update is automatic - Its not chosen manually. If you add the Nvida Repository (Build Services) this occurs without choice. Its not a user decision! As its part of the packing list which is applied when this repository is added, we own the problem. If it was a selective choice on my behalf we wound not have this bug open. I have been happy to offer the QA the choice of classification from A-Z, but will now assume and over right this discretionary choice; as you seem to want me to do. It could be classified under, X11-Applications, X11-Third party, Update Problems, Usability; but best classified as X.Org. Its not that difficult !!!!!!!!!!!- The application was created by X.org - deal with it! There is NO circumstances where this auto added application DOES work! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
