[Bug 529180] New: Split mozilla-xulrunner191-translations
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=529180 Summary: Split mozilla-xulrunner191-translations Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Factory Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Firefox AssignedTo: bnc-team-mozilla@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vuntz@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- As discussed on irc: 14:25 < wolfiR> vuntz: it's not called -lang because it's not covered by bundle-lang packages 14:25 < vuntz> wolfiR: yeah, coolo told me the issue is that the files are in /usr/lib. Do you know if there's a reason for this? 14:25 < wolfiR> vuntz: why it's not covered by bundle-lang packages I don't know. Basically because I don't know much about it and it probably isn't useful in that case 14:26 < vuntz> wolfiR: if would certainly useful to gain some space on the livecd :-) 14:26 -!- ph33r [n=ph33r@unaffiliated/ph33r] has quit [Read error: 113 (No route to host)] 14:26 < wolfiR> the reason is that these files have to be in $INSTALL_DIR/chrome 14:26 < wolfiR> there is no way to move them somewhere else 14:26 < vuntz> ah 14:26 < vuntz> so I guess I can just cry 14:27 < wolfiR> just don't provide the -translations packages on the live CD? 14:27 < wolfiR> or what do you want? One package for every locale? 14:27 < vuntz> well, the livecd ships with something like 6-10 locales 14:28 < vuntz> so ideally, I'd love to have the translations for those ones, and not for the other ones 14:28 < coolo> wolfiR: are the files noarch or arch? 14:28 < coolo> if they are noarch, you could have them in /usr/share and create symslinks in /usr/lib 14:28 < wolfiR> they _should_ be noarch but there is no guarantee for that 14:28 < coolo> and then you can put /usr/share into a -lang that is split (hmm, you would need to create the /usr/lib symlinks in trigger scripts - ugly) 14:28 < coolo> vuntz: cry! 14:29 < vuntz> heh 14:29 < wolfiR> there is certainly a way to package each locale separately 14:29 < wolfiR> but the spec file will get looooooooong 14:30 < wolfiR> it's probably also possible to have one sourcepackage per locale 14:31 -!- sde [n=sde@91.176.87.94] has quit [Read error: 110 (Connection timed out)] 14:32 < wolfiR> it's basically only packaging dtd and *.properties files but would add some 50 packages which need to be touched with every update 14:32 < wolfiR> with almost every patch level update as well 14:33 * wolfiR is going to look how fedora does it but not right now 14:35 < coolo> wolfiR: I think vuntz would already be happy if you split the important languages from the rest :) 14:35 < coolo> and when I say important, it may be enough if you take all languages that have a bundle :) 14:35 < wolfiR> coolo, vuntz, feel free to provide me a list in a bugzilla report 14:36 < wolfiR> that should be doable short term 14:38 < vuntz> will do Here's the list of languages that have a bundle (you can get this list from the beginning of pre_checkin.sh in bundle-lang-common): ar ca cs da de en es fi fr hu it ja ko nb nl pl pt ru sv zh -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I guess we need to have these extra packages for mozilla-xulrunner191, mozilla-xulrunner190 and MozillaFirefox at least? (I still will probably do it for MozillaThunderbird as well for consistency)
Would be nice, yes.
The naming will be *-translations-common *-translations-extra
Can I only keep the packages consistent by checking manually once in a while the bundle-lang-common source package?
Yep. Note that you might be able to put "Supplements: bundle-lang-other" in *-translations-extra to make it install automatically when another locale is used. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I need to do some testing with them before I request for Factory. I won't split mozilla-xulrunner190 I think. AFAIK almost every app depending on it is not a real XUL app and therefore shouldn't need xulrunner's UI and translations anyway. So for a live CD I would just exclude mozilla-xulrunner190-translations. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
