[Bug 695662] New: vm-install is not able to handle the cd/dvd drive for xen guest installation
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=695662 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=695662#c0 Summary: vm-install is not able to handle the cd/dvd drive for xen guest installation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Xen AssignedTo: jdouglas@novell.com ReportedBy: melchiaros@aol.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 I´ve tried to install Solaris 10 with vm-install and xen. It fails, because vm-install is not able to handle correctly a .iso that is attached to the system. All this is running in VirtualBox , so the .iso itself is attached to the system as virtual drive, which may be the problem here. For the failure and a package list, see both screenshots I will attach. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.install openSUSE in VirtualBox 2.bring in to tumbleweed and virtualisation repo 3.attach a Solaris 10 iso to the sysstem 4.try to install the guest with vm-install and xen from the .iso When you think this is mainly caused by the Virtualbox enviroment than close this ticket. Really I don´t want to run xen full in VirtualBox. It is so long a testing enviroment for me until I guess I can use xen on a real system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So, this ticket is not related to the VirtualBox enviroment that I´ve used previously.
...
Yes, o.k you say Solaris is not able to get xenified.
vm-install prevent me from choosing full virtualisation in the VirtualBox enviroment, because it seems not to be possible there. In the same manner should vm-install prevent me from choosing paravirtualisation for a guest that is not able to run in this mode.
I suspect that when running in the VirtualBox environment the tools are not detecting that the processor is capable of full virtualization and therefore they don't present the option in the interface. If this is the case (note that we don't use VirtualBox in our testing here) then you will not be given the option for Full Virtualization nor will Para virtualization work because Solaris doesn't ship with a PV kernel in the ISO. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry but no effort will be made to support this configuration. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
