[Bug 391362] New: System does not accept DNS and default route via DHCP
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=391362 Summary: System does not accept DNS and default route via DHCP Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Beta 3 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: rplewe@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- When activating my WLAN card via DHCP, there is no DNS and no default route set. This was and still is working with 10.3 in the same network environment, same DHCP server settings. I installed the machine in a wired DHCP environment, where those settings work. Switching to WLAN meant switching from NetworkManager to ifup/down, since I'm not successful in using NM with my WLAN card. /etc/resolve.conf shows the line # generated by NetworkManager, do not edit! and the DNS from the wired environment. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

With an empty /etc/resolv.conf, the name server is set correctly, and the "do not edit" line does not reappear. For some reason the missing default route got no further than the summary in my initial report. :-( The initial situation was that both name server and default route were not set. The default route is still not set via DHCP. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

We can continue with normal ifup/ifdown for now. Please execute "dhcpcd-test eth1" (or "dhcpcd -T eth1") and provide this info too (or the actual /var/lib/dhcpcd/dhcpcd-eth1.info file). Is there a default route set on an another interface, e.g. eth0? Please provide "ip a s ; ip r s" output. I'd say, that the dhcp server does not provide dns informations: May 21 08:25:48 rumms dhcpcd[17340]: eth1: no dns information to write but I may be wrong. You write:
With an empty /etc/resolv.conf, the name server is set correctly, and the "do not edit" line does not reappear.
and this may be also some bug in the new dhcpcd 3.x... Does the problem also occurs when you install the dhcp-client package and set DHCLIENT_BIN="dhclient" in /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp (or just call "dhclient -d eth1")? Set also DHCLIENT_DEBUG="yes" in /etc/sysconfig/network/dhcp. I'll reassign to the dhcpcd maintainer to check if there is a problem with resolv.conf that contains something. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
