[Bug 999123] New: kontact5 locks up on start
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=999123 Bug ID: 999123 Summary: kontact5 locks up on start Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 42.2 Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE Applications Assignee: opensuse-kde-bugs@opensuse.org Reporter: srid@rkmail.ru QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- kontact5 does not start up correctly most of times. When you start kontact, akonadi spawns, but kontact still waits for it to start. If you kill akonadi manually, kontact window would appear, with a button 'start akonadi'. Clicking on that button would restart akonadi, and 1/3 times kontact starts working, but it also may lock-up or quit with error. I'm experiencing this problem with clean openSUSE 42.2 beta 1 and with openSUSE 42.1 + KDE:Qt5 + KDE:KF5 + KDE:Applications repos -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Well, kdepim in 42.2 beta1 is not really usable currently it seems. The problem is that the package merely got copied over from 42.1 automatically without taking care of other dependencies. See also bug#996834 and bug#996805. So reporting bugs about KDE Applications in 42.2 beta1 doesn't really make sense currently. (Unfortunately this hasn't been mentioned in the release notes... :-( ) 42.2 will ship with KDE Applications 16.08 though, so it should hopefully be fixed then. (maybe in the next beta)
and with openSUSE 42.1 + KDE:Qt5 + KDE:KF5 + KDE:Applications repos
That may indicate a real problem though. (which I cannot reproduce, FTR) Just to be sure: You did do a full switch to those 3 repos? I.e. "zypper dup --from xxx", or "Switch sytem packages..." in YaST. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

(In reply to Wolfgang Bauer from comment #5) # rpm -qa | grep -iE "akonadi|kdepim|baloo|kmail"
Ok, thanks. The package list seems to be ok. And if you got it to work after killing/restarting Akonadi a few (or many) times, it shouldn't be an installation issue anyway.
libkdepimlibs4 and kdepimlibs4 cannot be removed, too many KDE packages depend on it.
Yes, and they shouldn't cause a problem. Your problem may be related to bug#1003261 then though, which has been filed today. As mentioned, 42.2 will still ship with kdepim4 (and install that by default AFAIK), so it shouldn't be an issue on a fresh install at least. Still it would be fine if we could get kdepim5 working too of course... :-/ -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Still happens with openSUSE 42.2 Beta 2 (KDE Applications 16.08). It took for me 20 minutes of killing/restarting akonadi to make kmail work.
So it is (still) working now? It may have been caused by the system cron jobs kicking in 15 minutes after first boot and stressing the system, disk IO in particular (the main "problem" is btrfs balance I suppose). Would explain that it started to work after 20 minutes... A similar problem has been discussed here: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/520792-Issues-with-Akonadi And https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/520802-Discussion-thread-for-42-2... (which is not specifically about Akonadi) which led to http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1008498. AFAICT, KDEPIM5 should work fine in general though. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's working in RC2. I think it was the duplicate of bug#1003261 No I have another problem: kontact does not shut down if I choose "Quit" in it's menu. The window disappears, but the process stays running. This makes impossible to launch it again until you kill the process manually. But it's probably another issue, and I should open a new bug for it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok, thanks for the confirmation. I think we can close this then...

Yes, please open a new bug report about this, but preferably upstream at bugs.kde.org. Just in case, there was a problem like this when the "delete trash on exit" was enabled, but that should be fixed in the latest vesions AFAIK. Still, maybe check that. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
