[Bug 912565] New: After latest upgrade of Tumbleweed I can't log in any more; error Could not sync environment to dbus.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=912565 Bug ID: 912565 Summary: After latest upgrade of Tumbleweed I can't log in any more; error Could not sync environment to dbus. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 201412* Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Other Assignee: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: freek@opensuse.org QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Late on 2015-01-09 I upgrades Tumbleweed to the newest 20150107 version. I am using KF5. After reboot I get the log in screen and tried to log in. After a while I get a small X-Window like window showing the message "Could not sync environment to dbus." Pressing the OK button brings me back to the log in screen. <Ctrl><Alt><F1> brings me to tty1 and I can log there. How to proceed? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=912565 Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |CONFIRMED CC| |wbauer@tmo.at --- Comment #1 from Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> --- Also reported here: https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/504188-New-dbus-in-latest-snap-br... Apparently the latest dbus security update broke Plasma5, ksyncdbusenv in particular. As a workaround, you could install dbus-1 and libdbus-1-3 from openSUSE 13.2 for now. Seems to work fine here. And/or select something else than Plasma 5 on the login screen, other sessions (including KDE4 if installed) should work fine. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=912565 Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Component|Other |KDE4 Workspace Assignee|bnc-team-screening@forge.pr |kde-maintainers@suse.de |ovo.novell.com | --- Comment #2 from Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> --- This seems to be fixed in Plasma 5.2 beta, Plasma5 starts fine here when I install ksyncdbusenv from the (not yet published) 5.1.95 plasma5-workspace package. The fix is this probably, as this is the only change to ksyncdbusenv: https://projects.kde.org/projects/kde/workspace/plasma-workspace/repository/... I'll create a 5.1.2 package including this fix for testing. PS: Assigning to "KDE4 Workspace", this product should probably renamed to"KDE Workspace"? ;) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=912565 Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Component|KDE4 Workspace |KDE4 Workspace Version|201412* |13.2 Product|openSUSE Factory |openSUSE Distribution --- Comment #3 from Wolfgang Bauer <wbauer@tmo.at> --- Please install plasma5-workspace from here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/wolfi323:/branches:/openSUSE... This works fine for me on a current Tumbleweed installation. If you add that as repo, give it a higher priority (lower priority number) and "zypper dup" will prefer that repo. I don't think there's anything else that can be done at the moment. As mentioned, the fix is in Plasma 5.1.95 (5.2 beta), which is in KDE:Frameworks5 already, just not published yet (5.2 beta will be released next Tuesday). And I don't think I can submit a fixed package to Factory from outside the devel repo which is KDE:Frameworks5. (Not that it would help you, because you use KF5 anyway) But this patch should be added to the running Plasma5 update for 13.2. The upcoming dbus security update will break Plasma5 there as well (I just tried). Changing the version to 13.2 therefore, as for Factory/Tumbleweed nothing can be done AFAIK and it should be fixed with the next update anyway. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Please install plasma5-workspace from here: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/wolfi323:/branches:/openSUSE: /Factory/snapshot/
Copied the rpm to a local RPMS folder with some more .rpm files and installed it from there. Back in business again. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

As mentioned, the running dbus update will break Plasma5 completely on 13.2 as well. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

While most had found problem on Tumbleweed, I also found this bug on 13.2
Yes, as I wrote in comment #3 already. The dbus security update that triggers this problem has been released for 13.2 as well in the meantime. A fix has been added to the running KF5/Plasma5 update for 13.2, but that isn't released yet. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

(though the workaround exists, it is quite critical bug that user cannot login) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

(it was locked 4 hours ago after abnpove was integrated.) if someone can test it from http://download.opensuse.org/update/13.2-test/ and confirm it working we could expedite release. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=912565 --- Comment #15 from Hrvoje Senjan <hrvoje.senjan@gmail.com> --- i see. given the original submit was more than 3 weeks ago (only the last plasma5-workspace came few days ago, and already one for the same package was pending, see in comment 7), if possible, it would be awesome if that 7-day-waiting-period could be trimmed down a bit ;-) TIA -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried to use the 13.2 packages on Tumbleweed, but that did not work. I only have Plasma5 running on Tumbleweed. However I use the latest plasma5-workspace from Wolfgang Bauer, which also updated some other plasma5 packages, coming fromthe official repositories, and I have no issues. Still this version of plasma5-workspace is not in the official Tumbleweed repository. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

using 13.2 packages on Tumbleweed won't work. different Qt versions, different shlibs, etc. however, Tumbleweed has received the fix yesterday, so 'plain' packages from there will now work -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Apparently the update to 5.2 was only partial. Now all is well. Problem resolved in my view. Had to remove plasma-addons to be able to install plasma5-addons. Should the removal not be done automatically? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
