[Bug 1035802] New: `zypper dup` doesn't remember/tries to reinstall packages I deliberately removed
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1035802 Bug ID: 1035802 Summary: `zypper dup` doesn't remember/tries to reinstall packages I deliberately removed Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Tumbleweed Version: Current Hardware: Other OS: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: libzypp Assignee: zypp-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: pointedstick@zoho.com QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Using Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma. I removed a large amount of packages present on the default install, because I don't use them: KOrganizer, KMail, Akonadi, KDE games, etc. But when I do a 'zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change` (which is apparently the correct way to do an update on Tumbleweed), it proposes bringing them all back: Steps to reproduce 1. Install openSUSE Tumbleweed with KDE 2. Remove a bunch of the preinstalled packages (KMail, Korganizer, Akonadi, etc) 3. Update your system with `zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change` Expected result: - Zypper does not try to reinstall the packages you removed Actual result: - Zypper *does* try to reinstall the packages you removed: $ zypper dup --no-allow-vendor-change [...] Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Computing distribution upgrade... The following 8 applications are going to be installed: Akregator digiKam "KDE Connect" Kleopatra KMail KOrganizer KSudoku Showfoto The following 140 NEW packages are going to be installed: akonadi-calendar-tools akonadi-import-wizard akonadi-mime akregator amarok calendarsupport [etc] -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

easiest solution would be to open software manager and click on dependencies on the menu bar. deselect install recommended packages.
next step is to right click on the package you wish to uninstall and remove it, then search for the package again, right click and select taboo
if you are going to use zypper it is better to use the zypper up command. dup can cause issues -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Or change the default in /etc/zypp/zypp.conf ## ## Whether required packages are installed ONLY ## So recommended packages, language packages and packages which depend ## on hardware (modalias) will not be regarded. ## ## Valid values: boolean ## Default value: false ## solver.onlyRequires = true -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
