https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=670122 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=670122#c0 Summary: Overuse of loud and irritating system-bell sound in GNOME gnome-terminal and gedit Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: badshah400@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 SUSE/3.6.13-0.2.1 Firefox/3.6.13 System: GNOME Live-CD build 1050 The system-bell sound (a high pitched squeal) is used far too generously even on GUI apps, which are expected to have other, much better, mechanism of providing a warning feedback. Here are my observations from using the GNOME desktop on 11.4 M6+:- 1. gnome-terminal - open a terminal in the home directory and enter cd and press TAB. The system-bell is heard in all its glory :) Workaround: Open "Edit > Profile preferences" and disable terminal-bell Note: Though terminal bell is enabled in 11.3, the loud system-bell is not heard when used similarly. 2. Gedit - The text editor also throws a loud beep when you try to use the use the keyboard to move the cursor to a non-existent line or column. I could figure out no obvious way to disable this. This sound is loud, irritating and best disabled for the GUI apps, as was the case with 11.3 Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

So we can close this for good :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
