[Bug 231357] New: can't write data DVD
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=231357 Summary: can't write data DVD Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: admin@eregion.de QAContact: qa@suse.de BugsThisDependsOn: 231355 +++ This bug was initially created as a copy of Bug #231355 +++ Whenever I try to write a data DVD, k3b fails the verification. Hardware: AMD Sempron, matshita dvd-ram UJ 850s. Result is independent of media used (tried so far: intenso 8x dvd+r, sony 16x dvd+r). Writing CD-rom works fine, and writing to DVD on the same box with nero under windows XP also works fine. The only error message I get is the verification failure in k3b, nothing in /var/log/messages, nothing in dmesg output. firmware on the drive is the latest available version. on older suse versions, writing worked ok with that drive. Since I have the very same problem on a second computer with a different architecture (i686) and a different drive (Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-1673S) which is rather new and seldom used for writing dvd, I guess it's rather impossible to be a hardware fault, especially since dvd writing with nero on windows works as expected on both computers. as a side note, i tried every possible combination of k3b and dvd+rw-tools from each of the following installation sources, with the same results: 10.2 boxed dvd / buildtree kde repositories / packman -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Isn't it all just frontends using the same dvd+rw-tools? there is NO output related to anything looking like a read-error in /var/log/messages, and also nothing in dmesg output. /var/log/messages is attached. strange enough, sometimes dvd writing works. output of k3b is empty dmesg output of a write attempt which worked: ath0: no IPv6 routers present audit(1167850164.117:3): audit_pid=3956 old=0 by auid=4294967295 hda_codec: num_steps = 0 for NID=0xb hda_codec: num_steps = 0 for NID=0xb hda_codec: num_steps = 0 for NID=0xb hda_codec: num_steps = 0 for NID=0xb bootsplash: status on console 0 changed to on hda-intel: Invalid position buffer, using LPIB read method instead. hda_codec: num_steps = 0 for NID=0xb NET: Registered protocol family 4 NET: Registered protocol family 3 NET: Registered protocol family 5 hda_codec: num_steps = 0 for NID=0xb Bluetooth: Core ver 2.10 NET: Registered protocol family 31 Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized SCSI subsystem initialized st: Version 20050830, fixed bufsize 32768, s/g segs 256 psmouse.c: TouchPad at isa0060/serio4/input0 - driver resynched. cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize! I'm looking into buying a new dvd writer for the i686 box, and filing a hardware fault with the notebook manufacturer for the x86_64 laptop, since the writer on that beast gives me trouble on windows as well; it writes sucessfully, but awfully slow (estimated 1,5x instead of the advertized 4x). anyways, i'm running a second test on the x86_64 tonight, again with my selfbuilt k3b 0.12.17 and the dvd+rw-tools from the suse dvd. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
