W. <kde@3danim.de> 2009-01-17 08:19:30 MST --- As an alternative, the r5u870 driver should be included in the distribution. I manually compiled the snapshot available on palmix.org/r5u870-en.html and uninstalled the uvc driver. Then, the webcam works fine. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Could you please confirm this by loading the r5u870 module, plugging in the camera, removing the r5u870 module and then loading the uvcvideo module and testing it? $ modprobe r5u870 plug-in $ rmmod r5u870 $ modprobe uvcvideo If this works I will CC you on an email thread where the uvcvideo author is looking for some testing. However, packaging r5u870 for opensuse isn't a possibility since the hardware requires firmware that has been extracted from Windows drivers and has an unknown legal status. Thanks for the report. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467163 User spam@graph-ix.net added comment https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467163#c4 --- Comment #4 from M. W. <spam@graph-ix.net> 2009-01-24 08:34:51 MST --- Regarding comment #2, the suggested strategy seems to work. Once the firmware has been loaded by r5u870, uvcvideo is able to initialize the camera until the computer has been turned off. However, the camera's data stream is not properly decoded and the image is shifted and distorted. Perhaps that is where the testing is required. IRT the legal issues of the firmware, would it at least be possible to host the firmware as online updates, similar to the WiFi or ISDN firmware images in earlier releases? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
