[Bug 377878] New: Shadows in PDFs turn black due to "old" pdftops
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=377878 Summary: Shadows in PDFs turn black due to "old" pdftops Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: sitsofe@yahoo.com QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Found By: --- Description of the problem: It is not uncommon for Mac OSX machines to send PDF print jobs that have shadows in them. When printed, the shadow turns completely black on the page. Steps to reproduce: 1. Download the attached document. 2. Run the following: /usr/lib/cups/filter/pdftops 1 1 1 1 1 shadow.pdf > out.ps 3. Use a tool to look out.ps (e.g. kpdf or kghostview). Expected results: Oval with a shadow around it. Actual results: Oval with a black rectangle around it. How reproducible is this problem? It is reproducible every time. Additional information: This originally came up on a SLES10SP1 server that is used as a print server. The problem is that the pdf to postscript conversion turns the area of the shadow completely black and this conversion was being done the CUPS pdftops filter (According to the postscript file it is version 2.03). The problem has been reproduced on openSUSE 10.3 (pdftops 3.01) and the pdftops from cups-1.3.7-1.1 on http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_10.3/i586/ (seemingly still 3.01). On openSUSE 10.3 running /usr/bin/pdftops shadow.pdf out.ps produces an out.ps where the shadow looks correct. That version of pdftops is from xpdf-tools-3.02-19.2 and the changelog for xpdf says the following under 3.02 (2007-feb-27) : "PSOutputDev now rasterizes any pages that use transparency." Version information: openSUSE 10.3 cups-1.1.23-40.41 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
