Created an attachment (id=226949) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=226949) [details] perl-BL-standalone-log as requested
Here you go.. this is one out of three machines i upgraded. If you need to have them i can upload the other to this evening..
Thanks for logs, can you please also attach your menu.lst after upgrade? because in logs it looks like that default is still 0 so I must check what part of program can change it and that depends on entries in menu.lst. That seems odd..
just logically speaking: ----------- if in old_menu.list default=0 remove the old opensuse entries (as marked by Yast) add two entries (opensuse11 and opensuse failsafe) at the top of menu.list
default is opensuse11 wich is at the top of menu.list so default =0
else new_default = old_default + number of added entries - removed entries..
---------------
i have not tried to find the scripts responsible but it seems to do something like
: added 2 entries to menu.list default = old_default +2
forgetting the REMOVED entries..
Am i right?
no, problem is, that in normal case new kernel is added and then old removed, so you add new entries and after remove old, script switch to new. But from log I see that first is removed old (so only windows can be booted - default change to it) and after it new kernel is added but script correctly use old default (which is windows from previous remove). So I still don't know why old kernel is removed before installing new. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

hmmm. Could it be that an other error (let's say an unresolved dependancy or something) that chrashed the install could have invoked it..
i had on 1 out of three machines an error like that.. (can't remeber what it was)
Interesting, can you provide exact way how you upgrade? I try emulate this update(from 10.3 to 11.0) in virtual box and it works as expected (first add new and then remove old). I install 10.3 and then change DVD to 11.0 and choose install->update and it let live my windows partition and default is correctly set to linux. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

To make this a little clearer: whenever the kernel is changed, the default entry changes.
Yes, this sound like really good way how to uninstall first kernel and after it install second. I try reproduce it on my machine and try fix it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
