[Bug 668191] New: DVD M6 installation without boot-loader does not start graphical YaST installation = does not allow to finalize installation
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=668191 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=668191#c0 Summary: DVD M6 installation without boot-loader does not start graphical YaST installation = does not allow to finalize installation Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: D.Povazanec@zoznam.sk QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=411143) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=411143) Error message during installation of M6 without boot loader User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux x86_64; U; en) Presto/2.7.62 Version/11.00 I have tried to install M6 on separate partition, to keep my running openSuse 11.3. To avoid overriding of opensuse 11.3. grub boot-loader, I have chosen to install openSuse 11.4 M6 without it's grub boot-loader. I adapted my old opensuse 11.3 grub menu to boot also new installed openSuse 11.4 M6 system, so I was prepared that Yast would make reboot during installation to start openSuse 11.4 M6 and continue in installation. This trick I used successfully many times before, but M6 showed 2 problems: 1. After installation of all packages, it setup configuration files, and there was error message during phase *Saving bootloader configuration... with error message: "/sbin/mkinitrd: illegal option --s" (see attached picture openSuse11_4_M6_install7.jpg) 2. I accepted previous error by clicking OK and installation finished configuration and asked for reboot. My old grub started the new installed system, kernel was starting, but it never started second part of graphical installation to continue in installed process, but it showed login: line in text mode. I cannot find log file with this error so I made some camara picture of screen and there is this error: Initializing virtual console ... Found a Linux console terminal on /dev/tty1 (170 columns 48 lines) *** Starting Yast2 *** terminate called after throwing an instance of 'YUIPluginException' what(): Couldn't load plug-in ncurses YaST got signal 6 at YCP file Wizard.ycp:36 /usr/lib/YaST2/startup/YaST2.call: line 283: 2528 Aborted $OPT_FBITERM y2base "$Y2_MODULE_NAME" $Y2_MODE_FLAGS $Y2_MODULE_ARGS $Y2_MODE $Y2_UI_ARGS if it could be interesting I attach camera picture of this errors (openSuse11_4_M6_boot_errors.jpg) Reproducible: Didn't try Steps to Reproduce: 1. Change old opensuse 11.3 grub to be prepared to boot new installed openSuse 11.4 M6 2. Install M6 without bootloader. 3. During installation one restart is needed, where the problem appears Actual Results: No graphical installation interface is restarted after reboot in the middle of installation process. Installation can not be successfully finalized. Expected Results: Graphical installation YaST screen appears after reboot and I can continue in installation of M6 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I tried it once more, and installation shows conflict of missing libc.so.6 and then I try to avoid conflicts and it pressed me to not install most of the system. So YaST-qt as well as YaST-ncurses were not installed, so it could not work after reboot. So if there would be libc.so.6 available, at least the second = reboot part of this "bug" would be most probably solved. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

But I thing I caused the problem = this is not real bug. The real problem is described in my Comment 2. This bug is most probably the same problem as of bug 645272, or bug 467161, or bug 668188. I apologize if I caused some confusion. I thought that this is real bug, and then later I understood that I did a wrong=incomplete installation of system because of missing libc.so.6.
