[Bug 458180] New: Insuficient media identification when prompted for LUKS password.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=458180 Summary: Insuficient media identification when prompted for LUKS password. Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: robin.listas@telefonica.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Created an attachment (id=259300) --> (https://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=259300) screenshot of two password prompt windows I have a external disk on usb that has two LUKS encrypted partitions. When I plug it in, Gnome prompts for a password... but does not identify the partition, only the disk. How is the user going to know which password to type? (see attached photo) Also, if you type the wrong password, it prompts you again, without an error message, so that you don't know if you are typing for the second partition or the first one (both windows are exactly one on top of the other). After several mistaken passwords (given on purpose) the application gnome-volume-manager crashes. (I'll attach crash log). Finally, this prompt can not be disabled, there is no option in the "removable drives and media" configuration item of gnome-control-center to disable it. Not even standard drives can be disabled there, contrary to the name. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

and the problem with the control center will also be gone for the same reason (fwiw, you should configure this in the nautilus preferences now).
In nautilus, preferences, media tab, there is no setting for media containing data. The entries are: CD audio DVD video Music player photos software then there is a drop list, but there is nothing like "usb stick" or "encrypted media" or similar. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Better because it shows /dev/sdaX? It might be better for you, it might be worse for other people -- that's something people can argue about.
I suppose. In my case, the label doesn't matter, because I use the /etc/init.d/boot.crypto (symlinked to /sbin/rccrypto) script to activate any encripted media. I'm just reporting on behalf of other users who doesn't O:-)
If the setting to not automount partitions is not in the UI, it's in gconf: /apps/nautilus/preferences/media_automount
Er... Right, but I rather refer to not automount encrypted media, I have no objection about normal media.
Sooo. Now we're here with a bug which is "dbus error when automounting an encrypted media", am I right?
Lost me here :-? Ah, you refer to comment #3. No, my original report was about the labeling of the dialog being insufficient in 11.0 to identify the plugged in encrypted media with several partitions. The dbus error popped up when I was adding the info you people requested, for 11.1 As a matter of fact, I may not be verify things on 11.1 if you need further info, because 11.1 crashes on my machine (kernel bug). At least till that is solved. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
