[Bug 262307] New: Two gnome-power-manager instances launched at login
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262307 Summary: Two gnome-power-manager instances launched at login Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 2plus Platform: i686 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: james@usr-local-bin.org QAContact: qa@suse.de $SUMMARY says it all really - I've checked and I don't have a stray reference to it in $HOME/.config/autostart and there's only one autostart .desktop for it provided by the gnome-power-manager package. Nevertheless, I have two gnome-power-manager processes running and two icons in the Notification Area. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Can you check ~/.gnome2/session* to see if there is any reference to g-p-m there? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Please first disable the g-p-m in the sessions capplet autostarted apps. Does g-p-m start when loging out and back in? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262307 ------- Comment #7 from james@usr-local-bin.org 2007-04-16 10:46 MST ------- Yes it does but only one instance. Also, clicking the panel shutdown button doesn't provide Hibernate etc as options so whatever g-p-m is supposed to do to enable this doesn't happen on the remaining instance (is that DBus controlled?) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262307 ------- Comment #8 from rodrigo@novell.com 2007-04-23 04:59 MST ------- That is powersave & HAL controlled, so if any of them says the system can't hibernate, it would not show the menu item. Still not sure though why it is being started, since it is not in the session* files but still being started when disabled in autostart. Still no reference to gnome-power-manager in any file in ~/.gnome2 ? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262307 ------- Comment #9 from james@usr-local-bin.org 2007-04-23 06:03 MST ------- I just double-checked and no, there's no reference. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262307 ------- Comment #10 from james@usr-local-bin.org 2007-04-29 15:11 MST ------- I Just found something else out, and this is odd.. Rebooted and logged in: One instance Logged out and back in: Two instances Logged out, dropped to text console and issues 'kill -9 -1', logged back in: One instance. The really weird thing is that no g-p-m process are left running when I logout so I'm not sure what process might be being killed that sorts it. Will dig into this more tomorrow. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=262307 ------- Comment #12 from rodrigo@novell.com 2007-05-02 04:37 MST ------- hmm, b-a-s should be killed after a few seconds, unless there is some process attached to it, and g-p-m does not use b-a-s, at least not directly. So, could you try logging out and waiting a few seconds to see if b-a-s is correctly shut down? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
