[Bug 918968] New: Screen locking is not configured for IceWM
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=918968 Bug ID: 918968 Summary: Screen locking is not configured for IceWM Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: 13.2 Hardware: x86-64 OS: openSUSE 13.2 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org Assignee: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: thejze@gmx.at QA Contact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- I sometimes use IceWM for desktop tasks, when I think KDE is to complicated or clumsy for the work to do. In order to be able to leave the computer unattended without having to close all programs and log out, I need the possibility to lock the screen. In IceWM there is a possibility in the taskbar ("Abmelden ...
Arbeitsplatz sperren"), however it seems that it is not properly configured.
System: Desktop PC with NVIDIA graphics card and one monitor. OpenSuSE 13.2, default installation using Yast, settings to german
rpm -q -a|grep -i icew iceWMCP-addons-3.2-143.1.2.noarch icewm-default-1.3.8-3.1.8.x86_64 iceWMCP-3.2-143.1.2.noarch icewm-lite-1.3.8-3.1.8.x86_64 icewm-1.3.8-3.1.8.x86_64
No manual configuration was done with respect to IceWM
printenv | grep -i ice DESKTOP_SESSION=icewm WINDOWMANAGER=/usr/bin/icewm-session
Steps to reproduce: 1) Log in with KDM, setting to IceWM 2) Click on the left button of the taskbar 3) Select "Abmelden ... > Arbeitsplatz sperren" 4) no obvious result, anything is acessible. 5) expected result: blank screen or anything else with a dialog prompting for the password. Reproducible: always -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Xscreensaver will not be started by icewm, so you need to:
1.Create a script called /etc/icewm/startup 2.Put "xscreensaver &" or "xcreensaver -nosplash &" into the startup 3.make startup executable by chmod
thanks
Starting manually
xcreensaver -nosplash & did the job, however the startup script failed, although I updated PATH.
cat /etc/icewm/startup #!/bin/bash # # necessary for Screen-Locking xcreensaver -nosplash &
cat /etc/profile.local # Add /etc/.icewm to enable startup export PATH=/etc/icewm:$PATH
printenv | grep PATH MANPATH=/usr/local/man:/usr/share/man:/opt/kde3/share/man XNLSPATH=/usr/share/X11/nls PATH=/etc/icewm:/home/thomas/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/games:/opt/kde3/bin ALSA_CONFIG_PATH=/etc/alsa-pulse.conf WINDOWPATH=7
ls -l /etc/icewm/startup -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 70 28. Feb 14:37 /etc/icewm/startup
By the way, xscreensaver was not installed at first. It might be a good idea to create a dependency in the icewm package. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

it should be "xscreensaver", not "xcreensaver"
Bloody stupid clipboard! Now it works, thanks. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
