When rebooting, grub speaks french, but has installed a french keyboard, not a belgian one. Even if I had a belgian keyboard, and configured a belgian keyboard in linux, grub worked with a US keyboard. Now (I don't know when that changed) GRUB decides that if I speak french I have a french keyboard. All the french speaking grub users will now get a french keyboard layout even if they use a canadian, luxembourg, swiss, belgian, whatever keyboard or even a US one. I am also responsible for other packages and I am also working on other projects - YaST2 is open project and you can send patch/fix. I have no problem to add any patch/fix to y2-bootloader (if the fix/patch is valid and solves described problem) Finally: I accept that it is not bad idea to add handling keyboard settings in y2-bootloader because it is tool which can obtain all user preferences from y2-country. Next good idea is to let my manager to decide if the missing keyboard settings in y2-bootloader is meaningful "feature" and if company accept to pay for it. Result: I add feature request and I am waiting for decision from my manager. You can vote for the feature. From the comments seen here I thought that
gfxboot --change-config base::keymap=be-latin1 was the command to set the keyboard layout in grub, and that what was missing is the glue to let the bootloader installer/configurator know which keyboard layout was selected by the user. I have tested gfxboot --change-config base::keymap=be-latin1 yesterday and saw that it seems not to do anything related to grub keyboard layout, so I surmise that the french layout installed when the french language is selected is only a side-effect in grub that works for big countries (at least France and US) but not for smaller ones. Of course I cannot tell if it had found that from the choice in grub or from the installed linux.
