http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=603076 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=603076#c5 --- Comment #5 from Bruno Gerz <bgerz@gmx.net> 2010-07-17 12:56:55 UTC --- News: Today I did try it with last Live DVD(last openSUSE-EDU)(did it by Hybrid- ISO dump to usbstick before). So it`s working fine. I think, so you don´t need the installer system logs. It seems to be a problem of auto configured overlapping partition for default persistent mode(cow system). After starting from flash disk the system searches for usb devices and free space(may be existing partintions too) for persistent storage mode and tries to create such a extra partition. Can`t Yast Live installer such things handle? It would be a good idea to describe how to switch off persistent mode on top of all live CDs. I saw a new bugzilla entry with hybrid="true" or hybridpersistent="true" (and "clic" flag/switch which I should try now. Don`t forget, many netbooks and other small systems don`t have CD/DVD so good flash stick support is/will become really important ;-) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=603076 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=603076#c6 --- Comment #6 from Jigish Gohil <cyberorg@opensuse.org> 2010-07-18 10:53:06 UTC --- Looks like live-installer does not handle any modifications to the live USB system, if there is any earlier modification installation hangs somewhere. Installer does not have any issues if the stick is booted for the first time or booting after removing .clicfs_COW from the second partition of the stick. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I got feedback by PM There is no boot parameter to switch off persistent mode, but adding a second partition with all free space of the usbstick should avoid persistent mode. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=603076 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=603076#c8 --- Comment #8 from Jiri Srain <jsrain@novell.com> 2010-07-19 06:07:24 UTC --- Bruno, the logs from the attachment don't show saving bootloader at all. The live installer should be able to handle changes in the live system. However, to find out where exactly the system is in stuck, I need the logs at the point of time the system is frozen during the installation - ideally, both /var/log/YaST2 and /mnt/var/log/YaST2 (which means, from the flash disk as well as disk you are installing to). -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

First from boot by usbstick, live-system start, live-installer selected and later I have removed all foreign boot entries Result: Bootloader was fine installed .. Now without removing entries for other partitions: Result: Hanging now. As mentioned above the workaround is to create the USB stick and then boot straight into the installation. The USB stick can't be used a second time, if you need to use it again it has to be reformatted and the image re-written with imagewriter. I'm a sysadmin and have the patience and the knowledge to dig through forum posts and bug reports to find the problem and workarounds, but I think the average netbook user who thought 'I'll try Linux since it's supposed to be good on these things' would have given up in frustration long ago. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

The 'scr' process (3 processes, actually) is frozen, as it was reported. However, in my case, no workarounds are effective. Changing the settings doesn't do anything, and killing the processes leads to YaST giving me the "Initrd failed" message and offering to review the bootloader settings. If I choose to do so, it freezes again. If I choose not to, it continues, but the installed system is bootable only to the /bin/sh (rescue system). The DVD and Net installers don't appear to be affected, only the YaST live-installer module on Live USB. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
