[Bug 402683] New: Can't play video with metacity compositing on
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=402683 Summary: Can't play video with metacity compositing on Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: GNOME AssignedTo: bnc-team-gnome@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: sdelcroix@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- With metacity compositing turned on (from gconf), trying to play a video with totem, banshee-1, vlc, mplayer, ... result in a crash: totem movie.ogg The program 'totem' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'. (Details: serial 50 error_code 11 request_code 140 minor_code 19) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) it's a regression from 10.3 where videos were working with metacity compositing on. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Stefan, in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=539783#c3 the maintainer of Totem says that this was a problem as well in Fedora, and that they had to fix the Intel and ATI drivers. Do you know what fixes he may be talking about, and do we need those fixes? Thanks :) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Previously, I couldn't watch video from Totem or Banshee and I couldn't use Cheese (they all failed with the same error as above). However, more recently I have been able to, and the only thing I've been able to link it to is a few X updates released last Thursday (July 24), because it starting working sometime after that. I've got an Intel 915 GM, so anyone else with an Intel chipset also seeing this issue fixed? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

This is probably the reason why it works for Kevin now. Unfortunately we need to go back to XAA due to performance reasons. But this time TexturedVideo won't be the default for XAA. Instead it will be Overlay. See Bug #411183 for more details. There are also packages available for testing (Bug #411183, comment #52). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
