[Bug 561487] New: openoffice oobase integration with kde/kontact/kde-pim broken
http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561487 http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=561487#c0 Summary: openoffice oobase integration with kde/kontact/kde-pim broken Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: PC OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: OpenOffice.org AssignedTo: bnc-team-ooo@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: danielm@ecoscentric.com QAContact: cwei@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; Konqueror/4.3; Linux) KHTML/4.3.1 (like Gecko) SUSE After upgrading from openSUSE-11.1 (with KDE 4.3 factory) to vanilla 11.2 oowriter templates that draw from addresses stored in kontact fail. The pre-existing data sources are listed in the Explorer, but when clicking through the tree the error message is shown. I seem to recall adding an additional package to enable the oobase-kde integration many years ago, but this has worked without a glitch for many OS updates. The same problem happens on both systems that have been upgraded from 11.1 to 11.2. I have checked to make sure that Java (Sun JRE 1.6) is enabled from the options. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. File->New->Templates & Documents, choose template 2. F4 to activate the data explorer 3. Actual Results: OpenOffice.org Base brings up a dialogue to reports that "The connection to the data source "blah" could not be established. The connection to the external data source could not be established. No SDBC driver was found for the given URL." Clicking on the More option, gives "A connection for the following URL was requested: sdbc:address:kab" Expected Results: Searchable data sources, document fields to be completed etc. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Ok. I'm not totally sure what to make of this report. But I guess it all comes down to the fact that we don't have kab backend anymore...
When creating a new database, the Database wizard doesn't list KAddressBook in the "connect to an existing database" menu thingie.
No kab? You mean you killed Kenny, argh..... ;-) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Actually, installing the 'OpenOffice_org-kde' package revives the KDE Address Book connection type. Please try that and see if that works.
I spotted that this morning when comparing my rpms from 11.1 to 11.2 and tried it (and the -kde4 package). Unfortunately it doesn't seem to work right, as it wants to map fields but then still has an empty data file and I can't search for entries etc. from the data explorer. This all has a horrid sense of deja vu about it as I seem to remember jumping through these hoops when first trying to make OO talk to kabc a few years ago. I'll investigate further and report back. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
