My test is done with the sles9 ppp-2.4.2-39.9.x86_64.rpm and the mru and mtu settings in /etc/ppp/options commented out and mtu and mru still set to 1492 in /etc/ppp/peers/pppoe I added the MTU='1300' and MRU='1300' lines to /etc/sysconfig/network/providers/provider0 Then I did a ifup dsl0 on the client and afterwards when I checked ifconfig the MTU of ppp0 was indeed set to 1300.
