From my experience I found out:
1.) After manual installation of rpm using command "zypper install java-1_6_0-sun", the symlinks in /etc/alternatives are handled correctly and they point to a new jre. 2.) After updating system using command "zypper update", the symlinks are broken as described above. I expect, that the problem is caused by using delta rpm instead of "full" rpm package. Michael, what do you think about this? It performs: /usr/sbin/update-alternatives --install /usr/lib/browser-plugins/javaplugin.so javaplugin /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_update13/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so 1503 which with --verbose gives: 1.5.0-sun-1.5.0_update13/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so 1503 Checking available versions of javaplugin, updating links in /etc/alternatives .. (You may modify the symlinks there yourself if desired - see `man ln'.) Automatic updates of /etc/alternatives/javaplugin are disabled, leaving it alone. To return to automatic updates use `update-alternatives --auto javaplugin'. After setting /etc/alternatives/javaplugin back to "auto" mode updating the symlink with the postinstall script works for me. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

In my previous testing, I'd forgot to try "indirect update" (1_6_0.u1 -> 1_6_0.u3.01 -> 1_6_0.u3.03). In these case, there's a problem with unnecessary switch to a manual mode and I don't know why. According to the update-alternatives manual, there is only one way how to switch it - using parameter --config - but this manual configuration is not (and cannot be) used in post* scriptlets. May I upload my test script and a log to the westernhagen.suse.de? Or they're avaliable on my machine - zelva.suse.cz (standard root password) in /root/java-test. I don't know how to solve that problem correctly. The only idea is to write a workaround script to switch links status if they points to "bad" path and are in a manual state. But I'm afraid that the postun scriplet of 1_6_0.u3.03 will remove out these links from a system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
