[Bug 271726] New: svn misses config file in /etc/xinetd.d directory
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=271726 Summary: svn misses config file in /etc/xinetd.d directory Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: richard.bos@xs4all.nl QAContact: qa@suse.de I just tried to enable svn via xinetd using yast, but this is not possible. Yast (network services -> Network services (xinetd)) does not offer svn and neither subversion. Checking the directory /etc/xinetd.d/ does not provide such file either. It would be could if the service would be provided, saves the user some hassle to configure it. Perhaps an svn user should be provided as well, so the svnserver can run as a different user. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Its a standalone server process. See /usr/share/doc/packages/subversion: .. 2. create svn user/group for svnserve subversion repositories can be served either via http, or via the svnserve daemon and a special network protocol. svnserve should not run as root user. The startup script rcsvnserve expects a user/group named 'svn', configureable via /etc/sysconfig/svnserve. But this user/group must be created before first use: useradd svn groupadd svn .. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=271726 ------- Comment #2 from richard.bos@xs4all.nl 2007-05-07 08:43 MST ------- The subversion documentation states: http://svnbook.red-bean.com/en/1.0/ch06s03.html When invoked with the --inetd option, svnserve attempts to speak with a Subversion client via stdin and stdout using a custom protocol. This is the standard behavior for a program being run via inetd. The IANA has reserved port 3690 for the Subversion protocol, so on a Unix-like system you can add lines to /etc/services like these (if they don't already exist): svn 3690/tcp # Subversion svn 3690/udp # Subversion And if your system is using a classic Unix-like inetd daemon, you can add this line to /etc/inetd.conf: svn stream tcp nowait svnowner /usr/local/bin/svnserve svnserve -i -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
