While this I was listening to music to check for audio chopiness and such, moving my mouse, observing system responsiveness. The result so far is very promising. I could clearly see a big I/O load but the new kernel seems to have a good impact here. I did not rule out the effect of the other parameters I changed though.
Update on the above: I observe system stutter, e.g. saving bigger files causes the system to stall for 1-2 seconds. Saving files (small ones) from vim also seems to take longer now.
