[Bug 677241] New: Frozen Bubble 2.2.0-11.1 locks up system openSUSE 11.4
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=677241 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=677241#c0 Summary: Frozen Bubble 2.2.0-11.1 locks up system openSUSE 11.4 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Factory Platform: 32bit OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: KDE4 Applications AssignedTo: kde-maintainers@suse.de ReportedBy: mrlindsay@tds.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:2.0b11) Gecko/20110203 Firefox/4.0b11 Starting a single player game of frozen bubble locks the machine completely up forcing a power-down to reboot system. After restart application widgets placed on the desktop are re-arranged with several stack on top of each other. This is despite manual session save and option to restore only manually saved session on boot up. May be related to bug 629379 for openSUSE 11.3 except happening on start-up instead of exit. Happens for all users tried every time. Frozen Bubble 2.2.0-6.2 under openSUSE 11.3 ran without any problems prior to new install of openSUSE 11.4. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.start Frozen Bubble 2.press enter key for default options 3.press enter key to start single player game. 4. System locked up at this point Actual Results: Tried Alt-F8 which took me to a black screen. Only power off and reboot has cleared problem. Haven not tried loading older version of Frozen Bubble as of yet. Expected Results: older versions ran fine so newer versions expected to perform just as well. Running Mobile AMD Athlon(tm) XP-M processor with 1GB ram and 5GB swap -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I could imagine, that the "black screen" part of the bug is caused by X.Org - in that case /var/log/Xorg.0.log* would be interesting and you could try to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-device.conf to have Driver "fbdev" and see if it makes a difference. While running in fullscreen, frozen-bubble seems to use 640x480 which also influences icon arrangement on the desktop. other things to try: before starting: mv ~/.frozen-bubble/rc{,.bak} to get a fresh config after bug: Ctrl-Alt-F2 to get to a text console -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=677241 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=677241#c2 --- Comment #2 from Michael Lindsay <mrlindsay@tds.net> 2011-03-08 03:15:19 UTC --- Since I'm using a KDE distribution it is the only one I've tried. I tried adding the Driver "fbdev" as suggested but this makes the game only 1/4 of full screen size but does seem to help stop scrambling the icon on the desktop. Deleting the rc file didn't really do anything. The same entries are in this rc file for all users I look at and also the safe entries under older 2.2.0-6.2 frozen-bubble I have under 11.3 distribution. One thing, root can sometimes play the game when all the other users tried still lock up. The ctl-alt-F2 command does get me out to a command prompt where I can at least do a graceful shutdown and reboot. At least for now frozen-bubble 2.2.20-11.1 has simply been removed. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Of course it ran fine. from what I've seen on http://www.frozen bubble.org this is written strictly for gnome environment so this was not to unexpected. Funny thing is frozen-bubble has started running normally under KDE as well! It has even stopped clobbering my desktop icon arrangements. In installing the gnome I did see where one KDE package, something about "kde pure" I think, had to be removed. As far as I'm currently concerned the problem is resolved but I sure don't know why! according to -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Lingk <TLingk@vdsvossk.de> 2011-03-14 22:58:39 UTC --- I don't know if this is the right place to report, but I encountered an issue that seems to be rather similar to this one. Playing Crack Attack or Supertuxkart also locked up my system completely after some time. Sound began stuttering, then stopped at all. Only a hard reset recovered the problem. I also use KDE but I use the 64 bit version of OpenSuse 11.4. Graphics card is a radeon 600. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
