[Bug 241976] New: Apply additional settings for udev
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=241976 Summary: Apply additional settings for udev Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: axel.braun@gmx.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Some DVD-frontends (like xine) look for /dvd. In the standard settings for udev, this is not included. Proposal: in /etc/udev/rules.d/55-cdrom.rules add dvd to the symlinks: SYSFS{removable}=="1", SYMLINK+="cdrecorder cdrom dvd" In the same context, when plugging a Palm Treo to a SuSE-system, always a different USB-port (dev/ttyUSB*) is assigned to it. Not a real good idea when syncing. I solved this by adding /etc/udev/rules.d/10-custom.rules with KERNEL="ttyUSB*", NAME="%k", SYMLINK="palm", GROUP="uucp", MODE="0666" which creates a node /dev/palm. Maybe you can apply this into the standard. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I plan to move the whole optical-symlink stuff to udev for 10.3, so this will change in the future You can't create a symlink for _all_ usb-serial devices, you have to match on device properties which identify the palm device. We can also never allow world-writable devices by default. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

there was an entry dvdram, but not dvd. On a new installed 10.2

Can you give me a hint how to find out the device properties? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=241976 ------- Comment #4 from kasievers@novell.com 2007-02-06 15:46 MST ------- Yeah, the yast install script may have "forgotten" the dvd entry; what I mean is that we should switch to full dynamic rule writing instead of fiddling around with the installer script. :) Pick one of the devices, that have unique properties, probably some USB values: udevinfo --attribute-walk --name /dev/ttyUSB0 -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
