[Bug 1021082] NET installer not picking up WiFi connection

Yes, the module requires iwlwifi-7265D-26.ucode but that firmware does not exist.
Instead it goes through some fallback routine and tries variants down to *-17.ucode.
Right.
I think kernel-firmware should provide the firmware files kernel-default needs.
Heh, blame upstream who doesn't provide the files to linux-firmware git repo.
I simply can't know that some modules have an intrinsic magic that calculates the real firmware name instead of using the modinfo data.
Please either add symlinks in kernel-firmware or fix the module's modinfo data so both are in sync.
It's a difficult question. I guess the module could list up the all firmwares the driver even may not need. A symlink would be messy, and symlinking from a different ucode version to another is just wrong. Can you add a workaround in the installer side? Or we can add our own patch to add more f/w lists to the driver. In either way, it's hackish and error-prone, so there is no "better one". In anyway, I'll try to ping upstream. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
