[Bug 264176] New: knetworkmanager: password stored but not used
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=264176 Summary: knetworkmanager: password stored but not used Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: i586 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de After first connection to my home network KNM stored the used password via kwallet. I checked it, there is entry in KWallet for KNM. But when I try to connect for the second time (after reboot for example) KNM does not use kwallet for retrieve this password at all but ask me, user, to enter it again. Please, check the kwallet entry first, and if there is a password stored, use it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

I am experiencing the same behavior (inability to read passwords from kwallet) also in KMail and Kopete, and it started about two weeks ago, probably after some update. It is interesting that when KMail is configured *not to* use kwallet (storing passwords in its own config file), it does not work either, but in this case it always complains about the password being *wrong*. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=264176 dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de ------- Comment #4 from dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de 2007-04-19 13:38 MST ------- Additional observation: I upgraded SuSE 9.3 to the latest qt3.3 and kmail was suddenly unable to send email to t-online (what always used to work before). It keeps saying "server does not use this kind of authentification). As a matter of fact the password that is stored in ~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc is wrong. Whatever I type into it (not using kwallet) leads to erratic behaviour when tryint to connect to the t-online mailserver because the password in kmailrc is wrong. If I revert to the last qt3-version without the security patch this goes away. In my case this is qt3-3.3.4-11.8 (latest update) vs. qt3-3.3.4-11.5. I saw the identical behaviour with openSUSE 10.2, so I guess this is an issue with the last security update "fixing" things in a destructive manner. Please check whether reverting qt3 update (what was provided for openSUSE 10.2, too) fixes this. The issues (though different) appear to be related to me. Thank you for your feedback. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=264176 ------- Comment #5 from bluedzins@wp.pl 2007-04-19 14:08 MST ------- Jiri, KMail works fine for me with 5 accounts, however I don't use Kopete. In KNM so far I see problems rather when disconnection occurs, and after that KNM is unable to read password from kwallet. But I have to test it more to be sure. Dieter, if you do not use kwallet it is hardly a common case with problems with kwallet integration, right? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=264176 ------- Comment #6 from dieter.jurzitza@t-online.de 2007-04-20 13:01 MST ------- Dear Maciej, your're right and wrong :-). Yes, my issue is not related to kwallet directly, but please see comment #4. If anyone of you would kindly revert qt to the version that had had been distributed with openSUSE 10.2 I'd guess you'd see the good behaviour again. There was a patch (so called utf8 vulnerability) that IMHO distroyed the capability of kmail to handle passwords correctly. I opened a second bug for this (266689) but would be curious whether reverting qt to the old version would fix issues for you. The only improvement I can imagine is to add some text to the dialog asking for a new key saying something like: "connection failed, please verify your settings".
Or maybe "connection failed, please try to connect again or verify your settings". I would rather opt for just passive popup window. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
