This works on my 11.4RC1, even though the plasma workspace still has troubles it seems.
What is your graphic card? If you use systemsettings to set up the screens have you tried setting it up with xrandr?

Are you using the nouveau or the nvidia driver? Setting it with xrandr or systemsettings doesn't work on the nvidia driver as it lacks randr extensions.

Will the second screen not be enabled at all or can you move your mouse into the screen for the left and right case? I checked upstream bugs.kde.org but there is nothing about nvidia or twinview which sounds related.

Could you please update to a more recent version btw? On 11.4rc1 it is xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau-0.0.16_20110115_b795ca6-2.1.x86_64
Now I updated to this version, however the problem still exists. By selecting one monitor left or right of the other, the display on each monitor seems to behave randomly. Sometimes one monitor still displays while the other doesn't, sometimes both monitors don't display properly: some big blanks of different colors. It might be caused by selecting of different "primary output" with the tool configure desktop. Mouse can still move in both displays. Previously I wrote mouse doesn't move in, as previously the other screen displays totally weird picture and you cannot find mouse there. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Most likely this is a regression in KMS. Is the kernel of M5 still available for testing? Then this would be the right approach to verify.
kernel of M5 doesn't exist on my workstation any more. However with M5, I could arrange monitors left-right.
The other possibility would be a regression in nouveau X driver. Is the xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau package of M5 still available to verify this?
I can try to go back to the xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau package of M5 and verify this bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I didn't find this package for M5, but I tried this package for 11.3. However it doesn't work. I'll need either kernel package or xorg-x11-driver-video-nouveau package for M5 to verify it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I can build for you the nouveau package with the sources we used for M5. How to build a M5 kernel I have no idea.
OK, then I wait for this package first. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
