[Bug 207073] New: make UPS poweroff configurable
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=207073 Summary: make UPS poweroff configurable Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Alpha 4 plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Basesystem AssignedTo: sbrabec@novell.com ReportedBy: sbrabec@novell.com QAContact: qa@suse.de It would be nice to make UPS powerdown configurable by a sysconfig variable. Possible example: POWERDOWN_ON_HALT=(every time|run on battery|never|try command) Maybe another value can be: "Power down only if there is no other machine connected to this UPS running." But this should be a part of nut logic. Affected packages: apcupsd + nut -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

It would be nice to make UPS powerdown configurable by a sysconfig variable.
From a UPS point of view, this is not a desireable option. There are quite a few systems that will kill their mains input completely while running from the mains (the soft switch that turns on the power again is usually fed from the UPS battery). The disadvantage of this is, that the batteries are no longer trickle charged, which will reduce their service life.
In general, a UPS should be connected to the mains (and switched on) at all times. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=207073 sbrabec@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |WONTFIX ------- Comment #2 from sbrabec@novell.com 2006-12-22 09:29 MST ------- For example my APC Back UPS RS500 can soft switch down while running from the mains (after EEPROM variable change). But you are true, after two years ofd aily power-off the UPS started to fail during powen-on self test (not on battery test). After buying IP phone and router and switching to permanently-on mode, UPS returned to normal work state again. So I am closing it, such configuration may look nice for desktop user (because it switches off all peripherals), but most UPSes are not ready for it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
