At this point, the cursor sits there for a few minutes, rotating (still reacting to mouse movements), then after a few minutes, it simply hangs and the computer doesn't recognize any keyboard or mouse inputs, requiring a hard-reboot. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Download openSUSE 11.2 Milestone 2 GNOME 64-bit live CD & boot 2. Wait for the boot to finish and witness the cursor 3. Wait a few minutes and then witness it hang. Actual Results: The system hangs with no GUI loaded. I installed opensuse 11.1(x86_64) with the vanilla kernel from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/Vanilla/openSUSE_11.1/ and the xorg from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.1/ I needed the kernel to get my wifi working (also intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100) Then my Xorg stopped working So I also upgraded my Xorg I found this entry for the xorg.conf device section that took care of the problem Option "AccelMethod" "UXA" This one is also needed if it is not there Option "EXANoComposite" Now I got X and with 3d desktop effects (i have dri enabled), but after a while x becomes very slow to react, for example opening a new tab in firefox completely locks the system for several seconds after which the system resumes function. This becomes worse when time passes even without switching tabs in ff or switching apps, until it is so bad the system is no longer functional and I need to reboot or power cycle if reboot is no longer responding. On the good side, it *does* respond to power off commands (from my laptop's power button), but no other keyboard commands that I could think of. I think I've isolated this as an X issue, since I've taken GDM out of the picture.
