Although qemu-kvm supports higher resolutions via the -vga vmware switch the output is often garbeled up to being irrecognizable (see attachement). The situation for VNC is not any better. Many bugs need to be resolved. VMware currently does not work on Opensuse(Bug 481137) and Virtualbox only supports 32bit guest operating systems, so that Opensuse is in need of a well working 64bit virtualization technology for desktop users.
