IŽm only a normal user. So I canŽt answer the questions about TW and the repo.
If you install from the stable repo, the kernel is the official newest one,
which can be used. If you install it with yast, you will have 2 kernel in the
grub-bootmenue. You can see them, if you choose the 2. line of it. If the new
installed kernel is not working correctly, you can again boot the old one. In
that case, there is no risk, as I have learned with many added kernel.
The case of a virtual box is out my experience, I have only a normal system.
