https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=785868 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=785868#c0 Summary: The installer gives a warning about not setting Hardware Clock to UTC. And does not remember selection Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: david.westfall@red-inc.us QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Opera/9.80 (X11; Linux i686; U; en) Presto/2.10.289 Version/12.02 The installer gives a warning about the system not being able to change time if the Hardware Clock is not set to UTC. After boot the hardware clock is set to UTC again. Who made software changes that time change will only happen if the hardware clock is set to UTC? My systems have been set to local time and have been changing time twice a year, correctly, for years. Now in 12.2 the earth is going to end if I don't set the Hardware Clock to UTC. Dave W Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install and de-select UTC. 2. 3.
From Yast GUI.
I you want to keep local time you must adjust the CMOS clock twice the year because of Day Light Savings switches. If you miss to adjust the clock, backups mail fail, your system may drop mail messages, etc. If you use UTC, Linux will adjust the time automatically. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

It's bug 779440. As a workaround, create /etc/adjtime manually with these 3 lines: 0.0 0 0.0 0 LOCAL And than run YaST. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Used yast2 to reselect local time. /etc/adjtime is on the computer with those settings. Must have been created by yast2.
