An hour or so ago on one K7 system I counted about 15 seconds to open the save as window. This time on a 2.4G P4, it took 45 seconds - each time. In KDE3 the time to open is too short to measure, while 45 seconds will make many people think the system is hung. The difference between the two (15 vs. 45) possibly confirms the actual problem. Both systems have about about 110 lines in fstab of type nfs and noauto for infrequently available hosts. On the K7 I had done my usual manual mount of the four nfs lines most often mounted, but I hadn't on the P4. The save as dialog is populating the left pane with all the unmounted noauto nfs entries (and all 28 local partitions whether or not in fstab, plus samba share fstab lines), making the default window size have a scrollbar for the left pane of around 8-10 multiples of its height. Cutting fstab from 11469 bytes to 796 bytes (10 lines total) cut the open time to 5 seconds, but there are still unmounted local partitions in the list, making a scroll of about two heights of the pane in the default window size. I checked in Fedora 15 on same P4 system, which took 7 seconds with all 11k of fstab unmodified, showing all partitions mounted or not, but no unmounted nfs items.
