https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221646 Summary: OpenSuse 10.2 B2 doesn't have acer_acpi kernel module Sound and WLAN don't work Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Beta 2 Platform: i586 URL: http://archernar.co.uk/acer_acpi/acer_acpi_main.html OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: wearabnet@yahoo.ca QAContact: qa@suse.de Hello, After looking around to know why my broadcom WLAN chipset and sound dont't work I found that because 10.2 kernel doesn't have acer_acpi module. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=204826 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=215626 Here is a thread fix such critical problems for Acer laptops with OpenSuse 10.1 http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://www.developpez.ne... Here is the link where you can get acer_acpi-0.3.tar.gz from http://archernar.co.uk/acer_acpi/acer_acpi_main.html License acer_acpi is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2. What acer_acpi does? acer_acpi creates entries under /proc/acpi/acer, which enable you to control the wireless LAN card, inbuilt Bluetooth adapter, and mail LED of your laptop. The syntax for each is the same: To enable a feature: echo "enabled : 1" > /proc/acpi/acer/{feature} To disable a feature: echo "enabled : 0" > /proc/acpi/acer/{feature} Where {feature} is either wireless, bluetooth, or mailled. acer_acpi creates entries under /proc/acpi/acer, which enable you to control the wireless LAN card, inbuilt Bluetooth adapter, and mail LED of your laptop. --- Now my Wlan isn't working which makes my laptop really useless. :( So could you guys address this matter before the final release of 10.2? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

So you mean, if i copy the attached srpm and do a rpmbuild --rebuild <srpm> .. this will give an installable rpm which when installed will copy the acer_acpi driver into proper location ? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=221646 ------- Comment #18 from jeffm@novell.com 2006-12-19 15:10 MST ------- Ok, I was hoping you'd say that. We put a lot of effort into getting the kernel module package stuff working well, so I was surprised when you said it wasn't working as expected. :) Abdullah - This should work on your system as well. Once you've done the rpmbuild --rebuild <srpm>, you can just install the regular RPM it builds. My apologies that this isn't as easy as you'd like, but this module hasn't passed any sort of QA process as it's entirely external to the kernel source tree. I'm only providing it as a convenience, and it is not to be considered a part of the openSUSE distribution. The author of the module should attempt to have this driver incorporated into the mainline kernel. Once that happens, it will be automatically in the next openSUSE release to use that kernel. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
