[Bug 692777] New: video readers are only listed as audio readers
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=692777 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=692777#c0 Summary: video readers are only listed as audio readers Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: Other AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jdd@dodin.org QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0.1 Most audio readers use xine, ffmpeg or mplayer as engine, so are able to read video as well as audio. Many of them, for example, are able to read video dvd (and have interface to do that). So these product should be listed in the video reader kde menu as well as in the audio reader one. They should also be listed in the video applet (I don't know exactly what is its name) - when a video dvd is inserted or when the right clic menu (open with) is openned and a folder "VIDEO_TS" is seen inside. a limited list of such product is: totem, kaffeine, amarok, banshee, kmplayer, mplayer, smplayer, umplayer... may be it's possible to add this in the spec file of the engine itself?? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

From my research I think the problem is in /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu file.
If in the desktop file the Categories entry is: Qt;KDE;AudioVideo;Player; (meaning it can play both Audio and Video files) then the application goes in the Audio menu only. If in the desktop file the Categories entry is: Qt;KDE;AudioVideo;Audio;Video;Player; (even though from my understanding of the XDG menu spec "Audio;Video;" is superfluous) then the application goes in the Video menu only (Sidenote: The "Audio" category is removed during rpm building in OBS as a not registered category. But even if it wasn't removed the application will still appear in the Video menu only). I don't know if the "Jukebox" menu entry has the purspose of including such applications (I didn't find any relevant information). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
