[Bug 1085750] New: The IBM Notes Client 9.0.1 crashes, when started.
http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1085750 Bug ID: 1085750 Summary: The IBM Notes Client 9.0.1 crashes, when started. Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Distribution Version: Leap 15.0 Hardware: 64bit OS: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Java Assignee: bnc-team-java@forge.provo.novell.com Reporter: guenter.stoehr@gs-consult-ac.de QA Contact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created attachment 764048 --> http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/attachment.cgi?id=764048&action=edit Logfiles of the installation and the crash ob IBM Notes Client 9.0.1. Yesterday I installed Leap 15.0 from openSUSE-Leap-15.0-DVD-x86_64-Build161.1-Media.iso. Then I installed all necessary libraries for the IBM Notes Client 9.0.1 and then the client itself. There was a warning during the installation, when I installed Fixpack3. When I start the IBM Notes Client 9.0.1, it crashes. I tried to start it before and after the installation of Fixpack3. Same result. With Leap 42.3 everything is fine and working correctly. Find attached: 2018-03-16 Notes-Install-Libraries.log ---> Logfile of the library-installation 2018-03-16 Notes-Installation.log ---> Logfile of the notes-installation, including a warning. 2018-03-16 Notes-Start.log ---> Starting the client before the installation of Hotfix3. 2018-03-16 Notes-Start_2.log ---> Starting the client after the installation of Hotfix3. On 2017-06-09 I reported a similar bug (ID 1043519), when installing and starting the IBM Notes Client 9.0-1 on Tumbleweed, but I never got a reaction on that report. On 2018-01-15 I reinstalled Tumbleweed and the issue had disappeared. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Sorry, but without the Notes Client I can't use Leap 15.0 and so I can't test it any further. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

What I don't understand is, why I don't get any reaction on my report. By the way: when I use the libraries in /lib and /usr/lib of Leap 42.3 instead of those, installed with Leap 15.0, the notes client starts, but really slow. It takes up to 30 minutes to load my notes-databases. This is quite similar to the behaviour within Tumbleweed. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

With this version the starting of die IBM-Notes Client is very quick (even quicker as an my normal Leap-42.3-System) and everything seems to work normal. With Leap 15.0 it still exists. But when I use the Tumbleweed libraries (/lib/ and /usr/lib/) on a Leap-15.0-system instead of the normal ones, starting of die IBM-Notes Client is normal and quick too. So I would like to know, when Leap 15.0 changes to the Tumbleweed-Libraries? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

Yes, I opened a track against IBM, but they told me, that Suse Leap is not supported by IBM. So they closed it without any result. But I don't think it's an IBM issue. To give you a short summary of my history with Suse and the Notes Client. I'm using the Notes Client since 2011, beginning with Suse 11.4 to 2018 with Leap 42.3. Everything was ok. When I wanted to change to Leap 15.0, the trouble began. I first reported that problem on 2018-03-17. Then I stayed on Leap 42.3 to use the Notes Client further. I tried Tumbleweed in Sep. 2018 and the Notes Client is working perfectly with Tumbleweed (See entry of 2018-09-29 in this report). So I changed to Tumbleweed and I'm using the Notes Client without any problems on Tumbleweed until today. When Leap 15.1 and 15.2 were available, I tried both of them on my test-computer, but the problem remained (Leap 15.1 on 2018-12-23, Leap 15.2 on 2020-01-29). So I think that this issue is a Leap 15.x issue and not an IBM one. Guenter -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.

I have several operating systems on my test-computer. For example Leap 15.2 alpha and Tumbleweed. http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1085750 http://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1085750#c18 --- Comment #18 from Guenter Stoehr <guenter.stoehr@gs-consult-ac.de> --- Hello Lubos, I'm not so happy with this decision, because I think, that this is not an IBM-problem but a problem of the libraries in /lib or rather /usr/lib, perhaps the glibc. The other libraries, needed by the Notes Client didn't change significantly since Suse 42.3. Suse 43.2 did use version 2.22 of the glibc, Leap 15.x uses 2.26 and Tumbleweed is up to 2.30. With Suse 42.3 the Notes Client was ok. When I use the Tumbleweed libraries on a Leap 15.2 system when starting the Notes Client, he starts. After the start has finished, I can return to the Leap libraries. The Notes Client continues working. :) The changing of the libraries happens simply by renaming the folders. So I believe, that there might be something wrong within the 2.26-version of the glibc. But I have no idea, how to verify that. That is why I would like to know, what I can do know now? Because the tricky work-around will perhaps not work very long. Is there a possibilty to install a higher glibc-32Bit on Leap 15.2?
