It can be fixed by starting it from a terminal window, and will be started on subsequent logins. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. install xfce 2. login, no xfwm4 is stared 3. start xfwm4 from a terminal 4. login again, xfwm4 is started Can also be reproduced by adding another user. "xfwm4" is started, but it fails to start and leaves ugly messages in /var/log/xdm.errors Once it is started from Terminal, it works fine and loads fine in subsequent logins.
