https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257664 ------- Comment #1 from admin@eregion.de 2007-03-27 02:44 MST ------- googling suggests that i'm getting hit by a known problem with older ipw3945 drivers and smp machines. Now, I've found that the suse kernel still uses a really old release of the 80211 subsystem (git-1.1.13) instead of the latest 1.2.16, or even the 1.2.15 which was officially included in kernel 2.6.18rc4 (why is that so? replace a more current official part of the kernel by something older doesn't seem very wise). According to the ieee80211 changelog, the very problems with smp machines and encrypted wlan were solved in ieee80211 1.2.15 which should be, by all means, in any 2.6.18 kernel, since it was officially committed. (see http://ieee80211.sourceforge.net/) is there any chance to get a decent kernel via you that has the right ieee80211 parts, or should i build my own? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257664 ------- Comment #3 from admin@eregion.de 2007-03-29 12:35 MST ------- how would i know? I'm not going to upgrade my otherwise perfectly working laptop which i need at home every day to 10.3 alpha just to see if that bug is fixed there. Let me say it again: the official versions of the ipw3945 driver and the ieee80211 subsystem do not have this problem, it's explicitely marked as fixed in the driver's version history; Also, those versions were officially included in the 2.6.18 kernel in 2.6.18rc4. I have NO idea why there's a much older driver and ieee80211 subsystem in what suse ships as 2.6.18.8. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=257664 ------- Comment #9 from yi.zhu@intel.com 2007-04-08 18:41 MST ------- The intree ieee80211 version is a little bit unsynced. The one between kernel 2.6.18-rc4 and 2.6.20-rc1 should be 1.2.15; and above 2.6.20 should be 1.2.16. But they are all showed as "git-1.1.13". So the ieee80211 subsystem included in your 2.6.18.8 kernel should be 1.2.15. I'm not sure you experienced the same bug -- "TKIP and WEP decryption error on SMP machines" which was fixed on 1.2.15. It should be not (since you are using intree 1.2.16). But to verify this, can you please try boot kernel with "maxcpu=1" to see if the problem goes away. Otherwise it should be a new bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

From the patch in comment #12, it is a patch for the ieee80211 subsystem. You can just recompile the ieee80211 modules, no need to recompile your kernel.
