https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=210943 andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- CC| |andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de ------- Comment #1 from andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de 2006-10-09 19:30 MST ------- "TryExec" doesn't seem to work. The Bug is about /opt/gnome/share/applications/gdmsetup.desktop, which contains: Name=Login Window TryExec=/opt/gnome/sbin/gdmsetup Exec=gdmsetup It doesn't seem to use the "TryExec" value at all, because I can reproduce the report: % application-browser (process:19053): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_display_get_name: assertion `GDK_IS_DISPLAY (display)' failed ** (Gnome Application Browser:19053): WARNING **: error launching file:///opt/gnome/share/applications/gdmsetup.desktop [Failed to execute child process "gdmsetup" (No such file or directory)] If this doesn't work, it needs to be worked around by using the absolute path to the gdmsetup binary in the "Exec" line. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=210943 jpr@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- AssignedTo|bnc-team-gnome- |jhargadon@novell.com |administration@forge.provo.n| |ovell.com | ------- Comment #2 from jpr@novell.com 2006-10-09 19:45 MST ------- It likely does use the TryExec line, only to have it succeed in the hardcode path case and then fail because sbin is not in the path for the actual command. Joe, the TryExec and Exec lines should be made to match in this case, both being 'gdmsetup' to match gnome 2.12 unless you can find an upstream bug related to this that gives a reason for the absolute path. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=210943 ------- Comment #3 from andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de 2006-10-09 20:48 MST ------- Yes, you're right. I totally missed the point of TryExec. ;-) Upstream bug: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=334647 Upstream change: http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/gdm2/gui/gdmsetup.desktop.in?r1=1.12&r2=1.13 Both the bug report and the change are broken: - With this change, TryExec succeeds and Exec fails. => Bad, because the user sees a menu entry that doesn't work. Either both of them should fail (=> The user doesn't see the menu entry) or both of them should succeed (=> The user sees the menu entry and it works). - The report talks about gksu which is Ubuntu specific. If we want to have gdmsetup ask for the root password in openSUSE (I can't decide this), it needs to be implemented differently. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=210943 ------- Comment #4 from jhargadon@novell.com 2006-10-27 10:00 MST ------- I have changed TryExec to match Exec as was suggested in comment #2. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
