[Bug 249908] New: rcxdm restart doesn't work when you're in X
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249908 Summary: rcxdm restart doesn't work when you're in X Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 1plus Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: X11 Applications AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: francisg@gmail.com QAContact: sndirsch@novell.com rcxdm restart presumably kills itself off if you run the command while running X. Could this possibly be changed so that the X server and/or KDM/GDM can be restarted with rcxdm, while in X? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249908 sndirsch@novell.com changed: What |Removed |Added ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status|NEW |RESOLVED Resolution| |WONTFIX ------- Comment #1 from sndirsch@novell.com 2007-02-28 12:08 MST ------- Not really. rcxdm restart does a "rcxdm stop; rcxdm start", so it kills xdm. Since xdm handles starting and killing the Xserver, stopping xdm kills the Xserver. Maybe you want to use "rcxdm reload" instead. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=249908 ------- Comment #2 from andreas.hanke@gmx-topmail.de 2007-02-28 14:04 MST ------- At least the last time I checked, "rcxdm reload" did actually kill the session as well (while running GNOME; this might be a GNOME bug, though). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Must be a bug in gdm, it doesn't seem to handle SIGHUP correctly. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.

Right, but if you're in X it never manages to get to the rcxdm start part, right? What other way is there to really fully restart X+KDM/GDM (while you're inside X)? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
