[Bug 796275] New: ALSA: No sound on VIA VT1708A based OnBoard Soundsystem
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=796275 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=796275#c0 Summary: ALSA: No sound on VIA VT1708A based OnBoard Soundsystem Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.2 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@suse.com ReportedBy: office@hantsch.co.at QAContact: qa-bugs@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:17.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/17.0 Hello, I like to use mainboards with VIA C7 CPUs. This mainboards often use the VT1708A (VIA High Definition Audio Controller). I recognized on several mainboards (i.e. ASROCK PV350-ITX, PV350A-ITX) that even on a fresh-installed openSUSE 12.2, sound is NOT working. The sound system is detected, but whatever I try, not the smallest sound comes out. I randomly (extremely seldom) had the situation that I had once sound, but at next boot it was quiet agan. Trying open sound system drivers from 4Front, I had immediately perfectly working sound. lspci shows this: 00:00.0 Host bridge: VIA Technologies, Inc. Simply fresh-install openSUSE 12.2 from DVD (KDE) 2. In case that sound works (this is extemely seldom), add the recommended online repositories and do a 'zypper dup' 3. Reboot Actual Results: No KDE welcome sound, also absolutely no sound at all. Expected Results: Normally working sound As I have to deliver this PC (now with oss-linux from "4Front Tech", I made a screenshot of hwinfo. I will setup a new PC to be able to supply further details on request. I was really surprised about this lack in hardware support! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
