The patch is rather intrusive and would have been pushed on the users completely untested during any factory/milestone phase. Exactly this concern was already raised by HPJ himself in comment #11 (quote: "if it makes sense so late in the cycle"). The patch will certainly get the proper reviewing and will fly into the next release cycle as soon as it's open.
